We always get a little bit of a chuckle when someone asks us “what can acupuncture treat” because, really, the answer is anything and everything. Up until _____ TCM, or Traditional Chinese Medicine, which encompasses Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Massage and Cupping, and Chinese Herbal Medicine (feng shui and astrology were also included) was the only system of medicine. Because of this it was cultivated to treat any ailment that was presented. Now, that being said, there are things that acupuncture is better at than others, and things that we personally have more experience with, but in general, yes, it can treat most anything.
Now what is it best at? Well it’s best at activating the immune system and triggering a specific immune response, at increasing blood flow, and decreasing inflammation, which are all typically the root of all ailments. Here are some of the common things we see in our clinic. This is not an exhaustive list, but can give you an idea, or maybe help you to identify why acupuncture could help you with.
-Neck, back, and spine
-Joint pain: shoulder, hip, knee, etc.
-Nerve Pain (idiopathic, lesion, neuropathy, shingles, etc.)
-Acute and Chronic
