NADH, the Cellular Spark Plug! — How to use NADH for immediate relief of brain fog!

Are you tired? Achy? Feel like you have cobwebs in your head, or “brain-fog”. Do you feel like you’re moving slow, are quick to get up in the morning, or NEED that caffeine hit to get going, well… you might need some NADH!

So what the heck is NADH?

NADH is the biologically active form of niacin (vitamin B3) and has the function of a biological spark plug in the cellular energy metabolism. NADH is essential to the production of ATP (cellular energy). NADH is also involved in basic metabolism, the breakdown of glucose and fats, and supplies energy to the brain, nerves, muscles, heart, and all other organs. NADH is also a potent antioxidant, helps DNA repair, boost immune system, and helps cell regeneration. Sounds pretty important right? Well it is! And most of us don’t get enough of it, or at least don’t get enough of it in comparison to how much we’re using. Poor diet, digestive issues, and drinking alcohol are examples of things that deplete our B vitamins, which means we require supplementation (and lifestyle changes probably!).

NADH is one of my favorite supplements because the benefit is experienced is so fast! I recommend to my patients the sublingual lozenge from Seeking Health, which is a combo NADH and CoQ10. For most of my patients, one lozenge is plenty, but if someone tends to be sensitive, I have them start with half. Place the lozenge either under the tongue, or between the upper lip and molar, this will allow the lozenge to dissolve slowly. I like to do this right when I wake up in the morning. I have my patients start taking it, the first day, right after breakfast, and within an hour they should start to feel a bit clearer-headed, and more “awake”. The effects should feel similar to caffeine but without the “buzzing” feeling. If after a few hours they begin to feel foggy again (and as long as there’s at least 5-6 hours before bedtime) then they can go ahead and take another 1/2-1 lozenges. The next morning, they take a lozenge right when they wake up, hopefully instead of any caffeine that they might normally use. This should really help to “spark” ones’ energy production in their body, help with the brain fog, and get them going at their best!

After a few days of this, and you begin to wake up more easily in the morning, and feel like most of those cobwebs are gone, then you can stop the daily use, and just use the NADH and CoQ10 as needed, or in times of higher stress.

Ask your healthcare provider if NADH + CoQ10 is right for you!
